Meet the Women of Witchery

They’re women of fortitude, influence and true expertise – meet the leading women of Witchery. To celebrate International Women’s Day and our Future Women competition, our female leaders discuss their integral roles and share the career advice they received that shaped their professional outlook and philosophy.

Senior Designer & Design Manager Women's Apparel

As a designer at Witchery, no day is the same.

My role is to oversee the brand’s dresses and skirts categories and their full design process, from conception to completion.

Based on the international trends and runway shows, we begin by setting the overall mood and concept of what we want the month’s collection to look like. From this, we devise how we want to interpret that for Witchery and the Witchery woman and apply it to every individual design, through selected fabrics, trims and cuts before we launch those products in stores.

What is the best career advice you've received?

I have always lived my life with the philosophy – personally and professionally – to treat others the way I would like to be treated.

I have seen this in many managers I have worked with and I have taken it on board, especially when we work with so many different areas within the Witchery business.

Head of Retail

I am responsible for our retail store network with a strong focus on creating, nurturing and connecting with our engaged, high performing store teams to ultimately deliver strong profitable results.

I work closely with all departments across the Witchery team to ensure that we are aligned and that I am developing and leading a retail focus that brings to life our brand strategy in our stores, creating a customer experience that is authentic, informed, friendly and passionate.

For me, it is all about our people – our teams in-store and our customers.

What is the best career advice you've received?

Try to maintain balance and keep perspective.

Focus on what really matters! I now invest time to plan out my diary, ensuring I have enough time for family and friends, my wellbeing (exercise, sleep and nutrition), time to recharge and maintain my positive vibes and mindset amidst a demanding work calendar with regular travel.

I also make sure I have enough time with my divine husband, as he helps me keep it real and brings me happiness!

Jennifer Petropoulos

Head of Marketing & Digital

I am responsible for setting the strategic direction for the brand and being the voice of the customer. My role is quite varied looking after the creative and visual identity, advertising and media, public relations, loyalty, digital channels and managing Witchery’s online business.

My goal is to increase our brand awareness, improve customer engagement and deliver on our commercial objectives while leading and developing an incredibly talented marketing team.

What is the best career advice you've received?

It was a quote by Maya Angelou that has always resonated with me ‘I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.’ Be open and honest. Lead by example. Treat people with respect. And just be yourself.

It’s also important to do something you love, and I’m so lucky to work on a brand I’ve always admired… I was already a [Witchery Rewards] gold tier member before I started at Witchery!

Head of Buying & Production

I work closely with the design team throughout the ranging process to be the commercial check point. I plan each range structure, cost negotiate with suppliers, buy the merchandise as well as develop the RRP architectures.

I also direct and create the critical timelines to assist in the management of the production lifecycle and the management of the manufacturing process.

What is the best career advice you've received?

Do what you love, and you will never work a day in your life! Trust your instincts and have confidence in decision making. Find your work / life balance.

Head of Visual Merchandising

My team manages the visual appearance of our stores and merchandising direction ensuring the customer experience from online to in-store is aligned.

Visual merchandising is creative; mannequins, window display, signage to imagery and we work hand-in-hand with store design and retail teams to deliver Witchery’s brand experience to our customers.

What is the best career advice you've received?

The only way to do great work is to love what you do, to find your passion and if you haven’t found it yet, keep searching.

I love what I do and am surrounded by a team who is equally as passionate. Your job is no longer ‘work’ when you are doing what you love.

The other most important piece of advice for career and life my Dad instilled in me from a young age was to ‘listen to your gut’. We often push down that instinctual voice inside, but it’s important to listen. Nine times out of ten that initial instinct is right or will lead you in the right direction.

Head of Merchandise Planning

I manage the planning team who are responsible for the budgeting and forecasting, store allocation, quantification and inventory management of all product for Witchery.

My role is integral as my team is ultimately responsible for ensuring the right product, gets to the right place, at the right time, so you can have a great experience in-store and online.

What is the best career advice you've received?

The best piece of career advice I have ever received is to make sure you do something you like and are passionate about. It’s pretty basic but makes all the difference.

Linda Ellis

Head of Quality Assurance

My role is to ensure that the vision created by the designers is turned into a reality and that we match the expectations of the Witchery customer through our commitment to quality.

I establish, lead and manage standards relevant to fit/sizing of garments, manufacturing and quality assurance of our apparel division.

Maintaining global best practice standards and production processes, my team ensures that every garment is quality driven through high performance fabrics and accuracy of fit, ultimately producing a product that you will purchase and love. I believe this is a vital ‘cog’ in the Witchery business, allowing the brand to be a leader in fashion and retain the Witchery reputation.

What is the best career advice you've received?

Work hard and be open to new opportunities, new ideas and the opinion of others. Also, love what you do.
