This season, Witchery is placing a heightened
importance on our jewellery range, elevating
the design and craftsmanship of the
collection. Jewellery Designer Alexandra Kate
George explains new season jewellery trends
and describes the updated creative process.
HOW DO YOU DEVELOP A PIECE?
WHAT ARE YOU INSPIRED BY?
There’s a huge amount of art in Melbourne, so I can
find a lot of things to be inspired by in just normal
day-to-day living. I’m sometimes surprised at the
things that may instigate a thought or idea for a new
design concept. Pinterest and social media outlets
always keep me up to date with what’s happening on
an international level.
WHAT CAN YOU TELL THE CUSTOMER ABOUT
WITCHERY JEWELLERY THAT SHE DOESN’T ALREADY
Many of our jewellery pieces are plated using real
gold and silver elements, this is how we achieve
beautiful soft gold and silver finishes. We only use
glass crystals and pearls which are often hand-cut
or hand-made to create the perfect finishing touch.
During a recent overseas trip I watched as a lady
intricately hand attached every single tiny crystal to
our Daisy Acetate earrings. This is a process now used
for most of our jewellery which features crystals.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE MOST POPULAR TRENDS IN JEWELLERY RIGHT NOW?
International designers have drenched their
collections in accessories, so it’s such a great
time for jewellery to make a huge come back.
It’s a matter of how many jewels can one wear,
more-is-more. Spring racing is all about
luxurious layered jewels this season, and earrings
certainly prevail as key pieces. There’s a particularly big
sway towards organic and floral shapes reflected in resin
and acetate materials.
