On the right track with Kate Waterhouse

Two things Kate Waterhouse knows well: fashion and horse racing. Dressed in Witchery’s Limited Edition collection Time to Shine, we asked the journalist and TV presenter how to stylishly stand out trackside.

What are your spring racing trend predictions?

This season we are seeing lots of sleek monochrome – everything from the Little Black Dress ‘LBD’ to beautiful tailoring. Suiting is a big trend this season, but not just your traditional blazer and pants. There are lots of alternatives when it comes to suiting, from short and skirt options to a suit dress, in many beautiful fabrications including lace.

The 80’s are another big trend, from bold shoulders, cinched-in waists and padded headbands are back!

What comes first? The outfit, or the accessories?

I feel like accessories can make or break an outfit so they are an important part of the process. For me, the outfit always comes first. I like to find the perfect look and then use accessories to make my outfit pop and unique to me. Although accessories come second, they are still a huge component of dressing.

In lieu of a dress, what other stylish outfit options can women wear to an event?

There are lots of alternatives when it comes to the traditional dress for an event. Separates are an easy way to mix up your event dressing – they are also good for mixing and matching, giving you plenty of different looks.

My favourite this season would be wide leg, high waisted pants, teamed with a cropped top, for a modern approach this spring.

What can we expect to see from Kate Waterhouse this spring season?

You can expect to see me in plenty of monochrome, having fun with my suiting and of course in a ‘LBD’ that never goes out of fashion. This season I am all about a headband, and not just for races, this can be teamed with your favourite party look or even jeans and shirt for daytime dressing.
